MGMT kündigen ihr neues Album Loss Of Life für den 23. Februar 2024 an. Bereits heute erscheint mit Mother Nature die erste Single daraus samt Musikvideo.
MGMT haben ihr fünftes Studioalbum Loss Of Life angekündigt, den lang erwarteten Nachfolger des 2018 erschienenen Albums Little Dark Age. Das Duo Andrew VanWyngarden und Ben Goldwasser arbeitete an den zehn neuen Songs mit dem Produzenten Patrick Wimberly (Beyoncé, Lil Yachty) und dem langjährigen musikalischen Partner Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Spoon), der die Platte, wie schon die letzten vier Alben der Gruppe, abgemischt hat.
Christine and the Queens ist auf dem Song “Dancing In Babylon” zu hören. Es ist das allererste Gast-Feature auf einem MGMT-Album, das zusätzlich von Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) und James Richardson produziert wurde. Miles A. Robinson fungiert auf Loss Of Life als Associate Producer und Engineer.
Loss Of Life wird am 23. Februar 2024 via Mom+Pop Music veröffentlicht, der neuen Label-Heimat von MGMT nachdem die Band bisher bei Columbia Records veröffentlichte. Die erste Singleauskopplung des Albums Mother Nature, die sich von einer wehmütigen, schrulligen Einleitung zu einem hymnischen Orkan entwickelt. MGMT zum Stück:
“The song outlines the archetypical MGMT mythology of one hero attempting to get the other hero to come on the journey that they ‘must’ go on. One part sounds like Oasis”.
Das neue, von 2n produzierte Animationsvideo zu Mother Nature wurde von einem weiteren langjährigen MGMT-Kollegen gedreht, Jordan Fish, der bereits seit Oracular Spectacular mit der Band zusammenarbeitet.
